Accommodations That Accepts Pets
Ther are plenty of hotels and condos that allow pets in the Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Okaloosa Island area.
If you bring your pet with you…here is a list of accommodations that accept pets.
The main reason that most beaches do not allow dogs on the beach is due to the health risks associated with pet waste. Pet waste (yes..people do not pickup after their dog) contains e-coli bacteria and/or parasites that can make beach goes very sick. Pet waste combined with warm sand is the perfect environment to make beach goers very sick. In particular, this is a big threat to children.
- “But, I see dogs on the beach”. Yes, there will be times that you will see someone with their dog on the beach, however it is illegal and you can be fined, especially if you are in a well patrolled beach area.
- “Since I’m a resident, I’m allowed to bring my dog to the beach”. Sorry, this is FALSE anywhere in the City, county or state beach areas in Destin/Okaloosa Island. Walton County allows residents with pet permits…which have restrictions.
- “It’s OK to take dogs to the isolated areas of Okaloosa Island”. Sorry, this is FALSE. However these areas are less patrolled.
- “My dog is small and I pickup after it”. Sorry, still not allowed.
- “Does Navarre or Pensacola Beach allow pets?” The only area that allows dogs is the two dog parks on Pensacola beach. Please check for hours as they are only open a few hours a day.
